PULSE: Dream Building Workshop

What is PULSE? PULSE Conversations is an interactive monthly conversation & workshop series designed for young creatives to explore ways to shape and influence their local arts communities while centering BIPOC voices. It's a space to connect, share experiences, learn and develop a network.

The PULSE facilitators, Nita Sunday and Eryka Oritz, had me wanting more discussion and community after participating in the PULSE: Dream Workshop, May 20th. Sunday used an online platform that allowed attendees to type in an answer that would pop up on the screen. Kickin’ off the workshop with the chicken wing debate was the best icebreaker; drums or flats? My answer, “Just give me the meat.”

The PULSE event was more interactive than I had anticipated. It felt like we were almost in the same room together, the camaraderie was beautiful. The workshop proposed a few questions: “What would you be creating if there were no limitations? Who would you be? What do you think would be different about your art?”

After reflecting and discussing these questions internally, the next step was to build a dream community, again with NO LIMITATIONS. As we exchanged thoughts and ideas of our dream communities, they did not seem too far fetched - just needed to be fleshed out. Like anything else that we are passionate about, it takes time and work. But it also takes a COMMUNITY. We are here as artists to share stories, uplift, and support each other.

I am certainly looking forward to the next PULSE event. Follow Nita Sunday on Instagram @culturedaf.life.
