The COVID-19 pandemic couldn't stop Make Music Day on June 21st! Northwest CT featured creative, socially-distant performances at venues in Torrington, Kent, and Warren. The community came together at a safe distance to see live music and celebrate the summer solstice.
In Torrington, musicians took to the rooftops of Five Points Gallery and Howard's/Noelke Gallery. The Red Room All Stars
(Lucinda Rowe, Mick Connolly, Gary Fiandra & Marc Russell) performed three sets of classic rock songs, including a full Beatles tribute!

Howard's/Noelke Gallery had an all day set filled with all kinds of genres. The bands included Olive Tiger (chamber pop), Olde Bones (indie rock), Hallowz (indie rap/rock), Knowte (rap/pop), David Taylor Coffey (folk-punk), Say Love (indie folk), Taken Alive (rap/pop), 3mbrace (rock), Vera (vaporwave/electronic), and Gloom Cake (Jennifer Vinegar Avery) (experimental/performance art).

In the afternoon, Our Culture is Beautiful
put on an educational all-ages drum circle and story time at KidsPlay Children's Museum!

Later in the evening, Matica Circus
performers Joel Melendez and Heidi Kirchofer made an appearance to liven up the event. Joel juggled on a unicycle during David Taylor Coffey's set, and Heidi walked on stilts, twirled ribbons and hula-hooped among the audience while 3mbrace and Vera played.

In Kent, Tina Pierce (country classics singer) and The T.J. Thompson Trio
(jazz) performed at the Covered Wagon Country Store.
T.J. Thompson's daughters even joined in for a song - a great way to also celebrate Father's Day!

Free drumsticks (courtesy of Vic Firth) and harmonicas (courtesy of Hohner) and custom Make Music NWCT tie-dyed shirts were available at the Arts Council's info booth. There was even a drone photographer at the Howard's performances to capture an aerial view of the happenings!
