The Long Journeys Home
The Torrington Historical Society will host a fascinating presentation by Nicholas Bellantoni, Connecticut State Archaeologist and author of The Long Journeys Home: The Repatriations of Henry 'Opukaha'ia and Albert Afraid of Hawk. Discover the story behind the book: the story of two indigenous men who came to Connecticut, one in the 18th century and one in the 19th century. Both men died young and were buried in Connecticut but recently, descendants of each man began the process of bringing their ancestor home. Dr. Bellantoni oversaw the archaeological disinternment of the remains as well as the forensic identification of each man.
The Long Journeys Home will be available for sale at the event.
