Thanksgivings for Life and Love
Crescendo’sFebruary 1 and 2 concerts, Thanksgivings for Life and Love, illustrate aparallel between spiritual issues set to music by Spanish Renaissance masters,and social justice and human rights matters expressed musically in a merging offolklore themes, popular songs and classical contemporary works by famous 20thcentury Latin American composers.
Worksby some of Spain’s most remarkable Renaissance composers such as Tomás Luis deVictoria, Francisco Guerrero and Antonio Lobo are featured. In contrast, choraland instrumental arrangements based on Latin American folk melodies by CarlosGuastavino (Argentina), Violeta Parra and Victor Jara (Chile) will beperformed.
TheCrescendo Vocal Ensemble are joined by Alturas Duo (Carlos Boltes, charango andviola, Scott Hill, guitar) and Gonzalo Cortes (quena, zampoña and percussion),as well as tenor and quena player Ignacio Ugarte from Barcelona, Spain.Crescendo Artistic Director Christine Gevert directs from the organ, withHideki Yamaya on theorbo.
