Creating From What We Already Have -- and Becoming a Happy Retiree
Artist Mary Lund of Harwinton will exhibit her current work at the Harwinton Public Library beginning September 5th.
Following several careers including engineering, psychiatric nursing, and teaching, Mary Lund ventured into the world of retirement. She discovered "that it was okay to not have a title, or a rigid schedule, or even make money." With the luxury of thinking about activities she enjoyed, rather than being responsible for a specific goal on a specific day, she focused on one question: What will excite me as I wake to the next morning?
For Mary Lund, the answer was to take up a paintbrush again after 50 years. Beginning with a family mural project, she discovered that relaxing control and letting of the fear of failure allowed her to rediscover her joy in creating. She says of this exhibit, her first: "This is my story of growth from closed to open, from fear to freedom, from worry to fun."
Please enjoy Mary's show, on exhibit through October 28rh. We hope you will take inspiration from her journey to create and display your own artwork.
